I love taking time at the beginning of each new year to look back and reflect on the fabulous photography sessions I had during the previous year. Putting together a slideshow to showcase some of my favorite images is such a great opportunity for me to reminisce on those special moments I shared with my clients and their families.
I am constantly reminded how lucky I am to do what I love and of the trust my clients have in me by allowing my camera and I to document special times in their lives.

After offering mini communion sessions for the first time last year I am pleased to announce that I am offering mini pre or post communion photo session packages again this year.

May is First Holy Communion time here is Tarrytown. This year I was fortunate enough to photograph several families that I had worked with in the past for their older child/ren’s First Holy Communion.

I was looking forward to capturing Luke in his communion attire as I knew it would be a fun session. He is quite the character and ALWAYS likes to pretend that he doesn’t want ANY photos of him taken!! The image I captured of him sitting in church praying made me well up. I knew as soon as I took it that I was going to LOVE it, down to the vice like grip he has on his praying hands. Adorable.

Colleen was a delight to photograph and it was enjoyable for me to have the opportunity to get to know her and her sisters a little. Three very different personalities! It was a beautiful evening for her session.

Patrick is the first boy in his family to receive his First Holy Communion and what a sweetheart he is. I photographed his two sisters communions several years ago. Now to look forward to younger brother, Liam’s communion in a few years. That should be very interesting. He is a big ham.

TJ was incredibly serious for his First Holy Communion. I was so thrilled that my family and I had the opportunity to attend this special event for TJ and his family. He looked adorable in his elegant suit. What a charmer.

Gabi’s mom and I have been trying for months to get together for Gabi’s shoot. Rain has delayed us several times, but we finally hit the jackpot on Sunday. The sun was setting and it was a gorgeous warm June evening. I had not met Gabi before, but it took her no time to relax in my company. We walked hand in hand along the Riverwalk, what a sweet girl. She was quite a sense of humor and posed with her very loose tooth dangling out of her mouth at one point, to see if I would notice!!

I always think of family photography as such a rewarding profession. Enabling families to have memories captured for them to treasure for years to come and to share them with future generation. However this afternoon I was reminded just how important those images can be to the families that I work with. I received an email from a client whose daughter’s communion celebration I had photographed this past Spring.

Yesterday her father in law passed away and she requested a couple of images from the family celebration of her two daughters with their beloved grandfather. I was honored to be able to provide those precious images for the family to reflect on during the coming weeks and months.

To the R family
May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared comfort you now and in the days ahead.

I feel so fortunate to have made one of the rivertowns the location of our family home and my place of work. We are surrounded by such incredible scenery and steeped in history. Afterall this is The Historic Hudson Valley! When the R family contacted me about photographing their youngest daughters First Holy Communion Celebration at Sleepy Hollow Country Club I was thrilled. Having visited the club as a guest on several occasions I was aware of the grandeur of the former estate of the Vanderbilt Family and its majestic, sweeping views on the Hudson Valley. What a perfect backdrop to an elegant family celebration.

The R Family, their extended family and friends were so delightful to work with. The children had a fabulous time playing out on the pristine lawns, whilst the adult guests enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres on the terrace and were serenaded by the exquisite violin music played by James Graseck. James has played for several R family events over the years, including K’s parents wedding and K’s grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. I could have listened to him for hours on end, he is such an incredible musician. I hope our paths cross again at a future event.

K looked stunning in her communion dress and was a great model for her formal shots with the family.

I had the pleasure of sharing the gallery and a slideshow with K and her mom yesterday evening. I always look forward to spending time with my clients as they view their images for the first time. It has to be one of the most rewarding parts of my job. Just to think I used to miss this when I sent the link to the gallery via email. I cannot imagine doing that now.

Thank you R family for choosing me to photograph your special day. I look forward to working with you again in the near future.

It is hard to believe that 2011 is behind us. It is so true that time seems to go faster each year. It has been another fantastic year for Debbie Allan Photography. I always enjoy creating my end of year slideshow, as it is wonderful to have the opportunity to reflect on each of the sessions I did and the wonderful people I encountered throughout the year.

Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year. I am looking forward to 2012 and the photographic journey. I cannot wait to reconnect with clients and I am excited to meet many new families too.

One of my New Years resolutions was to ensure I book a family photo session for my family. I did not do that in 2011 and I regret it. I want to be able to look back at images of my family in years to come, that include me!

I am back!

The Allan Family took a much needed vacation to the other side of the pond to visit family and friends and to attend a wedding. More about our trip later, but for now I did not want to miss the opportunity to blog sweet Grace’s communion, which I shot last month, just before I left for the UK.

Grace and her family are the most down to earth, warm and welcoming family. I have watched Grace grow up since we moved to Tarrytown five years ago. Her dad, like Craig is a volunteer firefighter here in Tarrytown and her mom a former workout buddy at the Y.

I think I was just as excited as they were about this special day. They booked me over a year ago to capture the memories for them. I attended the ceremony at Transfiguration and then accompanied them to Tarrytown House, on the borders of Irvington and Tarrytown. Such a beautiful venue for a wonderful celebration. The Vacca Family made me feel like a guest, insisting that I sat with them during the meal! The food was out of this world.

Grace was in her element, a little princess for the day. She had learned a special grace which she recited before the meal. She did such a great job memorizing it – it was long!

I spent some time with Grace alone in the grounds of the Mansion House and then with her cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and her parents. She was reveling in the attention like a superstar. The photographs reflect her pure joy on this momentous occasion.

I think this is my favorite image of the day. I softened it up a little, giving it a fairytale feel. I enjoyed watching Grace run around, almost floating with excitement. Cute!

I put together a slideshow for the family to enjoy. Mom came over for a preview and was moved to tears. I especially like the snippet of video at the end. She spoke from the heart.
